Just in case anyone was wondering about my apparent inability to get to DnD for, oh, the next 16 years or so, I recently came across the following on dooce and couldn't have said it better myself:

"Now that we are parents the amount of work that goes into planning and saving up for a night out is so prohibitively complicated that sometimes I would rather stay home and yank my pinky finger out with a set of salad tongs."
