Are we planning on playing DnD on Friday?

For Our Knitters

I swiped this link off of my friends blog. I thought you knitters would enjoy it. Can you believe there is a knitting pattern called the Rogue?

Shit!!! The Rumors are True...

From The Patio's website -
After 40 some years in business, in one form or another, the Patio will cease operation. Based on the market, the Patio has not been doing the business it used to in past years, and sales have continued to decline. Therefore, we are closing the Patio effective November 30, 2005.

Weekly Linkies: Bit o' Science & Literature

Death by Caffeine: Calculate how much caffeine you can consume before snuffing it. Very handy for me on weekday mornings...

Vibrator Overc(l)ocking: Need I say it, the following linked image probably isn't safe for work but HILARIOUS

And, while not a link, here's a hilarious joke I read online:

Here's a prime example of "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus"
offered by an English professor from the University of Phoenix:

The professor told his class one day: "Today we will experiment with a new form called the tandem story. The process is simple. Each person will pair off with the person sitting to his or her immediate right. As homework tonight, one of you will write the first paragraph of a short story. You will e-mail your partner that paragraph and send another copy to me. The partner will read the first paragraph and then add another paragraph to the story and send it back, also sending another copy to me. The first person will then add a third paragraph, and so on back-and-forth. Remember to re-read what has been written each time in order to keep the story coherent.

There is to be absolutely NO talking outside of the e-mails and anything you wish to say must be written in the e-mail. The story is over when both agree a conclusion has been reached."

The following was actually turned in by two of his English students: Rebecca and Gary.

THE STORY:

(first paragraph by Rebecca)
At first, Laurie couldn't decide which kind of tea she wanted. The chamomile, which used to be her favorite for lazy evenings at home, now reminded her too much of Carl, who once said, in happier times, that he liked chamomile. But she felt she just now, at all costs, keep her mind off Carl. His possessiveness was suffocating, and if she thought about him too much her asthma started acting up again.
So chamomile was out of the question.

(second paragraph by Gary)
Meanwhile, Advance Sergeant Carl Harris, leader of the attack squadron now in orbit over Skylon 4, had more important things to think about than the neuroses of an air-headed asthmatic bimbo named Laurie with whom he had spent one sweaty night over a year ago. "A.S. Harris to Geostation 17," he said into his transgalactic communicator. "Polar orbit established. No sign of resistance so far..." But before he could sign off a bluish particle beam flashed out of nowhere and blasted a hole through his ship's cargo bay. The jolt from the direct hit sent him flying out of his seat and across the cockpit.

(Rebecca)
He bumped his head and died almost immediately, but not before he felt one last pang of regret for psychically brutalizing the one woman who had ever had feelings for him. Soon afterwards, Earth stopped its pointless hostilities towards the peaceful farmers of Skylon 4. "Congress Passes Law Permanently Abolishing War and Space Travel," Laurie read in her newspaper one morning. The news simultaneously excited her and bored her. She stared out the window, dreaming of her youth, when the days had passed unhurriedly and carefree, with no newspaper to read, no television to distract her from her sense of innocent wonder at all the beautiful things around her. "Why must one lose one's innocence to become a woman?" she pondered wistfully.

(Gary )
Little did she know, but she had less than 10 seconds to live. Thousands of miles above the city, the Anu'udrian mothership launched the first of its lithium fusion missiles. The dim-witted wimpy peaceniks who pushed the Unilateral Aerospace Disarmament Treaty through the congress had left Earth a defenseless target for the hostile alien empires who were determined to destroy the human race. Within two hours after the passage of the treaty the Anu'udrian ships were on course for Earth, carrying enough firepower to pulverize the entire planet. With no one to stop them, they swiftly initiated their diabolical plan. The lithium fusion missile entered the atmosphere unimpeded. The President, in his top-secret mobile submarine headquarters on the ocean floor off the coast of Guam, felt the inconceivably massive explosion, which vaporized poor, stupid Laurie.

(Rebecca)
This is absurd. I refuse to continue this mockery of literature. My writing partner is a violent, chauvinistic semi-literate adolescent.

(Gary)
Yeah? Well, my writing partner is a self-centered tedious neurotic whose attempts at writing are the literary equivalent of Valium. "Oh, shall I have chamomile tea? Or shall I have some other sort of F--KING TEA??? Oh no, what am I to do? I'm such an air headed bimbo who reads too many Danielle Steele novels!"

(Rebecca)
Asshole.

(Gary)
Bitch

(Rebecca)
F__K YOU - YOU NEANDERTHAL!

(Gary)
Go drink some tea - wh--e.

(TEACHER)
A+ - I really liked this one.

Recognized?

On PostSecret today, can anyone confirm if the 8th postcard from the bottom is the recitation building and University Hall? If not, it looks a hell of a lot alike.

Does This Seem Familiar?

Anyone who has played with Loki or Scout should find this OOTS right on par. I should get bonus XP for being such great rogue roleplaying.

Did I Fail A Spot Check?

Call me a master of observation, but when did Mrs Oz become a contributor? And is she really a contributor, or is she really just a lurker with the benefits of a contributor?

Cool site

Check out Threadless t-shirts. It kind of reminded me of the "Art in a box" link that was posted here recently.

Threadless is a site that puts up spec t-shirt designs for people on the web to vote for - winning designs get printed. There are some really amazingly cool designs there, too bad I already have more t-shirts than I need.

And here's a nice motivational site. Very topical given the disaster of a class I just presided over...

Just to move that dead thing from the top of the blog

I so want to get this game, Guitar Hero. I saw the demo at GenCon and a piece on Attack of the Show on G4 last night. Looks like fun to me :D

Hmmm... This Chupacabra looks familiar.

This animal was reportedly shot and killed in Texas by a farmer who caught it attacking his chickens. Some of the locals believe that it may be the mythical Chupacabra. I, however, think it might be one of Maizy's litter mates.

Smokin'!

No Loki, this post isn't about that. It 's our turn to pick up dinner and today's selection is South Street Smokehouse. www.southstreetsmokehouse.com Have your orders in by 4:30. And if that doesn't sound good to you Loki we can go burn a big fattie and then it'll seem like a great idea. I guess this post was a little bit about that.

Dwarven Leveling

Hail Adventurers,

We need to level up our Dwarven companions. They don't get enough skill points to argue about (2 apiece) but they do get feats.
Seth, our fighter 2 /cleric 1, will be getting 2 feats, one of which must be a fighter feat. How about Precise Shot as his fighter feat so he can throw his spear or hammers into melee without the usual -4 penalty? For his second feat, I'm thinking about Combat Casting which will give him a +4 to his Concentration check when casting on the defensive. Since he has the most HP in the party and tends to be in the middle of the action more than most spellcasters he'll probably be someone who will be trying to heal people at times when it would provoke attacks of opportunity. Any thoughts? For his skill points I'm thinking about 1 point in Weaponsmithing and, call me crazy, but maybe a point in Climb or Jump? His point should go into something that's a class skill for a fighter and there ain't too many of them. What do you think?
For Anath, our fighter 3, I'd love to take Great Cleave but she needs a +4 base attack bonus so she'll have to wait until 4th level for that one. How about Weapon Focus (Dwarven Waraxe)? That'll give her a +1 bonus to hit with her waraxe but it's really a stepping stone to Weapon Specialization. Another option is Improved Overrun. I've found myself wishing we could get on the other side of enemies to flank them or just make more room for the people in back but the attack of opportunity thing is always a deterrent. Improved Overrun would eliminate the Attack of Opportunity from the enemy being overrun and gives a +4 bonus to the Stregth check to do it. A successful Overrun attempt also knocks down the enemy being overrun. What do you think? As far as her points go, 1 pt in Intimidate (giving her 5 ranks) and 1 pt in Swim (yeah, I know, but she's got 1 there already so what the heck). What think ye?

Weekly Linkies

Git yer hot boiled linkies here!

D&D Bumper Stickers: I want the "I Brake for Kobolds" one, but only if it does the voice, too.
Classic Ctrl+Alt+Delete Comic: Because its just not enough to check out OOTS three times a week!
News Flash: Headlines like these make me very "proud" of being from Indiana...
Friends Don't Let Friends Knit Fug: Horror stories of bad knitting projects, I particularly enjoyed the sweatered goats.

I'm Thinking About Doing Something Crazy

Okay, you guys me need to talk me down. I'm thinking about having Scout multi-class as a fighter. If I do, she can get point blank shot and precise shot at this level. No more shooting into melee penalties. Since rogue is not my favored class I can not level up in rogue as quickly. I will have the potential for higher hit points but less skill points. I wouldn't be able to gain my sneak attack bonuses as quickly, and I wouldn't always be able to put skill points in listen, spot, search, disable device, and open lock. But when I do go up in rogue levels I get 10 skill points. So I could put 2 points in each of the 5 skills, but nothing in hide and move silent. I gain more feats by being a fighter, which could make me a better archer. Would you guys prefer me to stay on the rogue path, or should I go for becoming a better archer?

Question For The BOD

Is there a high probability that those of us who use ranged weapons might find arrows and crossbow bolts? I'm deciding on my feat and I don't want to waste it. If we won't be able to find more arrows and bolts I'd like to take my character in a different direction.

Halloween - two days late

My Dad sent this. It is pretty cute. Be sure to fail once.
